| We in the Endurance Riding community have known about and have used the excellent 3M Reflective Tape for many, many years to increase our chances of being seen from behind by BDC's. In particular, the black-colored 3M Reflective tape is the tape of choice, since it is completely unobtrusive in daylight, but really puts out some reflective power at night!
I was about to buy some black 3M tape for my bike when I recalled that FJR pilot Dean Koehler (speedolips AT comcast DOT net) has already done this, creating custom-fit Reflectors specific to the FJR saddlebags, and markets them to the FJR community. So in the spirit of "keeping it in the family", I decide to patronize Dean, and PayPal'ed him a whooping total of $20 ($17 for the product, $3 shipping) for the pre-cut reflectors. They come with easy instructions, and installation literally takes 2 minutes.
Here's how they look in day light: |

And here's the effect at night, which as you can see, is quite dramatic:

| If you do a lot (or any) riding at night, this $20 farkle could go a long, LONG way toward improving your chances of making it home safe every night. You can usually find Dean's Reflectors on eBay by doing a search on "FJR1300", or by emailing him at the addess noted above. As you can plainly see in the above photo, these saddlebag reflectors work, and they work well! |
