Low-Beam HID Capsules:
The Low-Beam Only HID capsule is heavily shielded to ensure the massive light output only strikes the low-beam "portion" of the stock reflector housing (which is the upper section of the reflector). The bottom ("high-beam") section of the reflector housing receives none of the immense light output:

High-Beam/Low-Beam HID Capsules:
The "High/Low" capsule (seen below) is a different animal. It contains small "butterfly" wings that snap open when hi-beam is selected, allowing the HID light to travel downward to the hi-beam portion of the reflector lens. When lo-beam is selected, the butterfly wings snap shut, preventing any light from reaching the lower part of the reflector housing (which, again, is the high-beam part of the reflector). |

This close-up below shows a little detail of the Hi-beam/Lo-beam HID capsule installed in the FJR lamp housing (front perspective). Note the silver hexagonal-shaped "dome" over the end of the capsule, exactly like modern capsules in autos use. This helps prevent "scatter" and offending glare to oncoming vehicles, a critical factor when using these HID systems in heavily-populated metro areas.

| Below is a photo of the "High-Beam/Low-Beam" capsules installed in the FJR headlight assembly (rear perspective). The two leads in the center are obviously power to the HID bulb; the circuit entering the capsule at the 6 o'clock position controls the butterfly wings for hi-beam/lo-beam orientation:
